Should Men Be Allowed in Girls and Women’s Safe Spaces?

Should men be allowed in girls and women’s safe spaces?
The obvious answer is no. But Mississippi women’s locker rooms, bathrooms, dormitories, rape and abuse shelters, sororities, prisons, and other historically female-only spaces remain unprotected.
Lawmakers have until March 5th to move two great bills out of committee that would help prevent rape and other sexual assault against our Mississippi women and girls
The SAFER Act, HB 1428, will:
– protect the safety and privacy of Mississippi’s girls and women,
– define a woman and man from birth, and
– provide a cause of action for any violation of the Act.
There are several Mississippi bills out there that define a man and a woman, but this is the only bill that takes the next step and protects girls and women’s safe spaces.
Sponsored by Representative Celeste Hurst, the SAFER ACT has been referred to Public Property and Judiciary A Committees. A similar bill, SB 2753, has been sponsored by our courageous Senators Josh Harkins and Jeremy England. The senate bill has been referred to Judiciary A.
These aren’t just fears of potential sexual abuse. Or worries about what could happen. Here are more headlines:
– A 12 year old girl was raped in a New Mexico school bathroom by a boy who identifies as girl; two other girls spoke up as being assaulted by the same boy.
– A Virginia man dressed as a woman was arrested for peeping on and filming two women and a 5-year-old child in a women’s restroom.
– A Washington man dressed as a woman was convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. After being transferred to the women’s prison, he was discovered naked in bed with a mentally-impaired female prisoner.
– A 51-year-old Georgia man, dressed as a woman, was arrested and charged with public indecency, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass for undressing in front of children in a women’s restroom at a Walmart.
These are just a few of the many stories that share the same theme: women being violated in their safe spaces. If you want to see more, view the long list here.
Will you stand with our courageous lawmakers? If so, kindly ask your lawmakers to support these bills. And please keep up to date on these emails and share with your friends.
